Each type of product has some features that make it worthwhile. We used the same criteria to pick our 7 exhaust systems. So, when you’re in the market, you should always be on the lookout for these points below. Let’s start with the types of exhausts.
Cat-Back or Axle-Back Exhaust System, Which One?
Cat-back is the type of exhaust system we chose for our list. You’ll see why they’re the better option. The exhaust gets its name from its connection in the vehicle. It connects to the system just after the catalytic converter.
When it comes to standard after-market exhausts, cat-backs are at the top. Although this type can be more expensive than, say, axle-backs, they’re longer and provides better airflow.
Cat-backs have X-pipe or H-pipe designs that are very popular with 2018+ Mustang GT models. They sound better than all other types.
On the other hand, axle-backs are the cheaper option if you want an upgrade in terms of sound and aesthetic. You won’t see any performance gain with an axle-back system.
Single Side or Double Side?
Single side exhaust system uses a single pipe to transfer all exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold top to the rear end of your vehicle and then into the open. It attaches to one side of the vehicle, which is the exact opposite of dual-pipe systems.
Turbo Back
If you have a vehicle that utilizes turbochargers, then a turbo-back exhaust might be of interest to you. It takes the remaining exhaust gases from the turbo-charger and sends them outside into the open. Usually, performance car owners and drivers use this type of exhaust.
Pricing
Depending on the type of exhaust system and its brand, we divided the price ranges into three parts.
In the range of $100-$300, you’ll find single exhaust systems that are very basic. They only have pipes and clamps. Mufflers aren’t usually included here.
Then, in the range of $300-$500, you’ll find average cat-back and side systems. Most side systems will be the single exhaust system, with some dual exhaust systems available in this price range. They may include mufflers in different models.
Lastly, we have premium options. Their prices can hover from $500 to $5000, depending on the features and branding. All the latest and updated cat-back systems are in this range. As we mentioned before, for a Mustang GT, spending a thousand bucks is understandable.
Most top brands, such as Borla, Corsa, Flowmaster, etc., have products in this range. The best exhaust system for Mustang GT might as well be found in their product line.
